Helping founders move faster
Accelerate@Babraham is the Campus’s flagship pre-seed support programme for early-stage life science start-ups. The programme combines expert mentoring, an intensive taught curriculum and access to laboratory facilities to help founders refine their science and develop commercially viable ventures.
Participants benefit from an eight-week programme, up to twelve months’ free access to communal laboratory space and £10,000 non-dilutive funding to support early development. Widely recognised as one of Europe’s leading biotech incubator programmes, Accelerate@Babraham connects entrepreneurs with investors, industry experts and scientific leaders who can help accelerate their journey from concept to company.
Flexible laboratory space for early-stage ventures
LiveLabs is our fully managed co-working laboratory environment designed for life science start-ups at the earliest stages of development. Located at the heart of the Campus, LiveLabs provides ready-to-use laboratory facilities for molecular biology and cell culture alongside shared office and meeting space.
Flexible memberships, expert lab management and access to mentoring and events enable founders to generate early data, refine their science and build momentum. By lowering the barriers to entry for laboratory-based research, LiveLabs helps companies take their first steps toward building scalable life science businesses.

Accelerating the future of neurotechnology
Cambridge NeuroWorks is an ambitious programme bringing together researchers, engineers, clinicians and industry partners to advance next-generation neurotechnologies.
Supported by the Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA), the initiative funds and nurtures bold ideas aimed at addressing major neurological challenges - such as dementia, depression, epilepsy and chronic pain. Through funding, mentorship and a collaborative research environment, Cambridge NeuroWorks supports innovators as they develop transformative technologies which could reshape the future of brain health.
Babraham Research Campus fosters a collaborative culture where entrepreneurs, scientists and industry partners can share knowledge and learn from each other.
Campus forums, mentoring networks and learning programmes provide opportunities to connect with experienced founders, investors and experts across the life sciences ecosystem. Workshops, lectures and networking initiatives help entrepreneurs develop the skills and insight needed to navigate the challenges of building a successful science company.
Some of the initiatives delivered throughout the year include:
A cross-campus network connecting academia and industry to support career development, collaboration and entrepreneurial thinking.
Bringing together PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, group leaders, industry professionals and company leaders, the network supports those exploring career pathways, seeking collaboration opportunities or looking to expand their professional network within the Cambridge ecosystem.
Participants gain insight into careers across academia, start-ups and industry, hear real-world experiences from peers and sector professionals, and build meaningful connections that enable collaboration. Through access to a wider community via Connect Health: Tech, the network creates opportunities for knowledge exchange, informed career decisions and stronger cross-sector relationships.
The Babraham Institute Distinguished Lecture Series brings leading international scientists to Cambridge to share their research, insights and career journeys with the wider scientific community.
Open to researchers at all career stages, scientists from Campus-based companies and the broader Cambridge life sciences community, the series provides access to globally recognised experts and world-class science. Through engaging talks and informal discussions, participants gain insight into cutting-edge research and its real-world applications, while building connections across academia and industry.
By creating a platform for open exchange, the series stimulates curiosity, encourages new ideas and strengthens collaboration across the Cambridge ecosystem.
Campus networking groups create structured, peer-to-peer forums that bring together individuals in similar roles across different organisations to share practical experience, challenges and solutions.
Focused on specific scientific disciplines and business functions, these groups meet regularly to exchange best practice, explore common challenges and learn from both academic and industry perspectives. Sessions are informal but purposeful, combining open discussion with expert-led input to support ongoing professional development and continuous learning.
Open to everyone based on Campus, the groups help build meaningful working relationships, strengthen cross-campus collaboration and provide a trusted space for practical problem-solving.
The Babraham Research Campus mentoring scheme connects people across organisations through carefully matched mentor–mentee partnerships, supporting career progression, knowledge exchange and innovation.
Open to early, mid and senior professionals across scientific, technical and business roles, the scheme provides access to experience, perspective and practical guidance from across the Campus and wider Cambridge ecosystem. Participants gain insight beyond their own organisation and discipline, helping to broaden thinking and accelerate development.
By building trusted relationships and sharing expertise, the scheme strengthens the community and supports long-term career growth and collaboration.
The Babraham Research Campus Leadership Programme brings together professionals from across the Campus to develop practical leadership skills, strengthen collaboration and support career progression.
Delivered as a year-long virtual programme led by Focal Point Coaching, it focuses on the core capabilities needed to lead effectively in scientific and commercial environments, including strategy, communication and personal effectiveness. Participants gain new perspectives from peers across different organisations and disciplines, with learning designed to be applied immediately in day-to-day roles.
Open to professionals at all career stages, the programme creates space to reflect and refine leadership approaches while building stronger, more effective teams. Early cohorts have shown strong engagement and impact, with participants reporting improved communication and collaboration—supported by tools such as DISC—and applying learning directly within their roles, with 100% recommending the programme.
Through its collaboration with Innovate UK Business Growth, Babraham Research Campus provides companies with direct access to expertise, funding and specialist scientific capabilities that support faster growth.
On-campus access to Innovate UK advisors, through regular drop-in sessions, offers practical guidance on innovation, funding and commercial development, while eligible companies can access up to £15,000 to utilise the Babraham Institute’s core facilities, including flow cytometry, imaging, genomics and bioinformatics. This support spans the full journey from early-stage development through to commercialisation.
Embedded within the Campus environment, this partnership connects infrastructure, expertise and funding in a way that reduces friction and enables faster, better-informed decision-making at critical stages of growth.
The Founders Growth Community brings together founders and CEOs to support the journey from scale-up to pre-Series A and beyond.
Developed in collaboration with the Milner Therapeutics Institute, Babraham Research Campus, o2h group and Wellcome Genome Campus, the programme offers a series of workshops, masterclasses, roundtables and panel discussions tailored to the challenges of commercialisation and growth.
Designed for leaders navigating what comes next, the community creates space to learn, share experiences and gain practical insight, while building a strong peer network across the Cambridge ecosystem.
Funds to support collaborative work, access to talent via secondment/internship and technical expertise of Babraham Institute and other BBSRC funded campuses.
£15,000 offered to start-up companies on-boarded with IUK BG to use at organisations with RTO Status (eg Babraham Institute).
Access to Campus Innovation Award funds to support subsidised access to LiveLabs, enabling companies to land and bridge to the next round of funding.
Supporting innovation and investment readiness
Companies based at Babraham Research Campus benefit from access to a range of grants and funding opportunities that support research and business development.
Through initiatives such as the Campus Innovation Award and collaborations with organisations including Innovate UK, companies can access funding to support research projects, engage specialist expertise and progress toward investment milestones. Combined with the Campus’ strong investor networks, this ecosystem helps companies raise capital faster and accelerate growth.
Connecting ideas, people and investment
A rich programme of events brings the Campus community together with the wider life science ecosystem. Conferences, symposia and networking events provide opportunities to explore new ideas, showcase innovation and build relationships with investors, partners and collaborators.
Events such as the BioBabraham Symposium highlight the cutting-edge research and entrepreneurial activity emerging from the Campus, helping connect innovators with the networks and investment needed to bring new technologies to market.
