Identifying an opportunity, building a team and raising vital finance to the success of biotech companies with high growth potential. However, those early stage life science enterprises struggle not just in the ideation (nucleation) stage but also during the early growth phase. The Babraham Research Campus has been very successful in supporting biotech companies from pre-seed to seed and on to IPO.
In 2018 Babraham Bioscience Technologies (BBT) launched the Accelerate@Babraham initiative.
The Accelerate@Babraham initiative is designed to support ambitious early stage life science ventures within our active campus community. It does this by giving access to appropriate short-term open access laboratory and office space, facilitating interaction with the academic community at the Babraham Institute and providing access to our global network, including mentoring and business support. Since the launch of Accelerate@Babraham two distinct activities have been launched to support the objective to nurture and support new science concepts and life science ventures. These are StartUP@Babraham and ScaleUP@Babraham.
StartUP@Babraham supports concepts and/or companies that are pre-seed to seed stage (below £500k investment). Annually, via a rigorous and competitive application and selection process, up to five early stage life sciences enterprises are selected to take part in a 5-month bio-entrepreneurial programme.
