We are now seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join our dedicated Engineering team and help us maintain the high standards expected across our estate.
The Role
As a Maintenance Engineer with an electrical bias, you will play a vital part in delivering safe, efficient and high-quality maintenance across the Campus. You’ll undertake a mix of planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, diagnostics, installations and commissioning — ensuring systems are reliable, energy‑efficient and compliant with relevant regulations.
You’ll work across a wide range of systems and equipment, with exposure to an exciting and varied scientific environment. While the role focuses on electrical work, you will also support mechanical, HVAC and building fabric tasks where required.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Completing PPM, reactive and condition-based maintenance on electrical systems
Fault-finding, diagnosing issues and ensuring compliance with BS7671
Supporting and troubleshooting BMS, HVAC, UPS and control systems
Recording work on the CAFM system and keeping documentation up to date
Supervising and coordinating specialist contractors when required
Conducting risk assessments and ensuring safe working practices
Taking part in an out-of-hours call‑out rota
Carrying out inspections to ensure buildings and assets remain in excellent condition
About You
We’re looking for a proactive, skilled engineer who takes pride in delivering high‑quality work and enjoys working in a dynamic environment.
You’ll need:
Recognised apprenticeship or equivalent training in electrical/mechanical engineering
City & Guilds 18th Edition (2382) and Inspection & Testing (2391)
Strong experience maintaining and fault‑finding on electrical systems
Understanding of BMS (ideally Trend), UPS, emergency lighting and controls
Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements
A full UK driving licence
Desirable experience:
Energy efficiency practices (e.g. TM44, CIBSE)
SFG20 maintenance
Basic plumbing
Working in occupied or laboratory environments
Use of Concept Evolution CAFM system
You’ll be someone who:
Is organised, methodical and detail‑focused
Solves problems effectively and works well independently or as part of a team
Communicates clearly at all levels
Is positive, flexible and committed to delivering excellent service
You’ll also need to be willing to work flexibly across two shift patterns (6 am – 2 pm or 9 am – 5 pm), work on our on-call rota periodically and work on a non-smoking Campus.
