The Babraham Bioincubator
Synergy between the Institute's science base and the companies locating to the Babraham Research Campus is key to our Bioincubator concept; ventures must be developing technologies or products that are of relevance to human healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors. BBT brings together the Babraham Institute's world-renowned research, its facilities and ideal geographical location at the core of the Cambridge cluster to provide an holistic approach to knowledge transfer and biomedical enterprise.
The exceptional facilities available have ensured that Babraham's Bioincubator, established in 1998, has been fully occupied since 2001. The Bioincubator currently offers 32,000 sq ft combined laboratory and office accommodation, providing business and technical mentoring for start-up and early-stage ventures.
Thirty companies currently reside on the campus, developing technology platforms, products and services and these ventures, employ over 200 staff and occupy 52,500 sq ft of bioscience facilities provided within our Bioincubator and first BioDevelopment Building, Minerva. To date, 20 companies have graduated from the campus as a consequence of a M&A activity or the need to move to larger premises, however, the new BioDevelopment buildings will provide more extensive premises for companies requiring additional grow-on space, heralding the new phase in the evolution of the Babraham Research Campus.
